The Observatory
For this project our site was the Warley Woods in Birmingham and our objective was to pick something to observe. I chose to observe the nature along with the clouds.
I figured that I could design something for artists who enjoy capturing landscapes and nature. I think that clouds are good media because they are ever changing and you can get different outcomes every time you draw them

Analysis of Warley woods and surrounding area showing the points of observation, important landmarks, the sun path and main walkways. Also shows a model of the landscape with the positioning of my structure.

This is a plan view of my observatory and a cross section 'A-A' to give a bit more information on how the entrance works. This structure consists of two elements; one the main area which houses the studios that view the field north and two the pods which are connected by pathways. The pods have a glass ceiling which is used for viewing the sky to capture clouds and also nearby every pod is a spiral staircase which allows easy access on and off the structure..

This page displays the cross sections 'B-B' and the construction details for the observatory showing you the materials and what holds it up.

These are some renderings of the elevations I made in Rhino 3-D and edited in photoshop.

Lastly two hand drawn drawings showing what it might feel to be in the dome or the gallery. These "atmospheric" drawings show how the spaces might be used.
