Theatre
For this project I was asked to design a theatre of any style of my choosing. I chose to go with a proscenium arch stage theatre as it made the most sense to me.

This page describes in depth the proscenium stage; what it is and how it functions.

For this project i decided to go with a location plan instead of a site plan. This is because after doing a site plan i found that no major factors really effect the site the only notable factor is the via duct located next to the site. Outlined in red is our site and it is located on Allcock Street in Birmingham.

This is the ground floor plan and it shows the entrance area where to get tickets and a cafe for a small rest spot. It also shows backstage with the workshop where costumes and props are made. Finally both fire escapes are noted for front of house and backstage

The first floor plan is where the theatre is located I thought it should be in the center of the building because it is the heart of the building, "where the magic" happens so to speak. Other than that there is a void allowing view to the cafe below from the bar area.

The second floor is the final floor and it houses all the technical parts of the theatre, the sound and light room. These rooms overlook the stage so they are able to make adjustments and changes to light and sound. I also had some extra space so i decided to design a small rehearsal area and an office space.

This page shows Section "A - A" and it shows the theatre from a front view. The light and sound room are above the seating and are held up by columns and on the ground floor you can see the storage, workshop and a hallway.

This page shows Section "B - B" and it really shows the inner working of the theatre bringing life to each room.

This page shows my precedent study which inspired how I wanted the exterior of the building to look. The Sainsbury Laboratory had the perfect aesthetic for what i wanted to convey. I did not plan to use the same materials but the idea of how the architect broke up the space between the cantilever and the glass was what I wanted my building to convey.
